EUROTITAN: Green Chemistry for a Greener Future

The Faculty of Technology Zvornik, the University of East Sarajevo, participated in the first Summer School of Green Chemistry in Bosnia and Herzegovina, titled ‘Green Chemistry for a Greener Future.’ The event took place from September 4th to 8th, 2024, in Visoko. The Summer School was organized with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as part of the project ‘Environmentally Sustainable Management of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Industry and Waste Management,’ funded by Sweden.

The Faculty of Technology Zvornik, the University of East Sarajevo was represented by Mr. Nebojša Vasiljević, who presented the EUROTITAN project from the European Union’s HORIZON program. The EUROTITAN project focuses on innovative valorization of red mud, a byproduct of Bayer’s process, with the aim of transforming this industrial waste into a valuable resource. During the summer school, students had the opportunity to learn about the significance of this initiative, which represents an important step toward sustainable waste management, reducing negative environmental impacts, and creating new economic opportunities.

The Summer School program was designed with diverse formal and informal content, providing students the chance to establish useful contacts and exchange experiences with colleagues from academia and industry.
